Manchester United vs Cardiff City
Competition: 2013/2014 English Premier League, Round 23

Man United participated in a thrilling League Cup semifinal last Wednesday against Sunderland. Unfortunately for supporters of the Red Devils, it was yet another disappointment at Old Trafford as David Moyes' side missed a chance at the final in Wembley Stadium after some worrying breakdowns in composure and confidence. At season's start, Tuesday's clash with Cardiff would've been checked as an automatic win for the defending league champions, but now, it seems much more of a tossup. The Red Devils have now lost 5 of their last 6 games in all competitions, and a 6-point gap from 4th place will have fans screaming for Moyes' head. But it seems the board are reluctant to quit on Sir Alex Ferguson's replacement just yet, so the embattled Scot will once again lead his beleaguered troops onto the pitch. But good news is sooner than later for the Manchester club, as Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney could be fit and ready to start this game. Furthermore, crisis has convinced the board and Moyes to spend big on Chelsea's attacker Juan Mata (a club-record transfer fee) who could also be introduced for his first appearance in a must-win game. The Red Devils are well-rested here while the Bluebirds had a Saturday tie in the F.A. Cup.

Cardiff City have now gone winless in their last 6 league games, a stretch that saw them take just a measly draw against Sunderland. This form has dropped the Welsh club to last place in the league table as the players continue to adjust mid-season to the new manager's tactics. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has engineered a nice run through the 3rd and 4th rounds of the F.A. Cup with wins over Newcastle and Bolton, respectively, but his side's league form must pick up if they wish to push on in the top-flight next year. The Bluebirds have won just once this campaign on the road in league play, while drawing 3 times and losing 7 (including their last 4). But perhaps it's worthy to note that their two F.A. Cup wins both came on the road, so there's reason for optimism from the club's supporters. However, Tuesday they face a desperate team who has perhaps been rejuvenated by Juan Mata's arrival and the possible return of star men van Persie and Rooney. Boasting the league's second-worst goal record at just 17 netted this season, Cardiff City look to be in trouble here.

Barcelona 3-0 Malaga:
40′ Gerard Piqué 1-0 // 55′ Pedro Rodriguez 2-0 // 61′ Alexis Sanchez 3-0

Barcelona returned to the top of the Liga table on Sunday night by beating Malaga 3-0 at the Camp Nou.
Willy Caballero was in fine form all evening to deny Tata Martino's troops, but Gerard Pique eventually broke the deadline just before half-time from a corner.
The second half was an onslaught, and it didn't take long for Pedro to add a second and seal the result. Alexis Sanchez converted a third from close range to cap a brilliant display.
There was even time for Ibrahim Afellay to make his return to the pitch in a Barca shirt-his first for 634 days.

West Bromwich Albion vs Everton - Competition: 2013/2014 English Premier League, Round 22
Match date: 20 January 2014

Pepe Mel makes his first official appearance Monday with the visit of 5th place Everton. Mel has much to correct in a side that is capable of a mid-table finish but also very much in danger of the relegation zone at just 3 points above after 21 rounds of league play. Temporary caretaker Keith Downing did a fine job in his stead as manager, earning a win, 3 draws, and last weekend's hard-fought loss to Southampton. So excuses for form will be few and far between for the new manager who is without long-time striker Shane Long (to Hull). However, the Baggies have achieved just a single victory in their last 12 matches in all competitions, and the visit from Everton isn't the doctor's prescription for that particular ailment. Furthermore, West Brom have won just 3 of their 10 home matches. But history plays ally here for the hosts (against Everton), as they've won 4 of the last 6 meetings at the Hawthorns, all 4 victories coming in the way of shut outs. But a new manager always offers new shape/style, so a West Brom backing here is quite risky. It is important to note that West Brom average just 1.2 goals per game at home this campaign.
  • Probable lineups West Bromwich: Foster – Reid, McAuley, Olsson, Ridgewell – Yacob, Mulumbu – Morisson, Sessegnon, Brunt – Long.
Everton team keep on chugging, and currently sit in 5th place of the Premier League with a chance to jump their local rivals Liverpool for 4th (after Saturday's 2-2 draw with Aston Villa). The Toffees have stepped up in class this year with the loan arrival of Lukaku and have offered their desires to sign the Belgian on permanently. Whether this works for the club or not, it hands the young striker a confidence boost from the staff and board alike, perhaps inciting a spirited display this Monday. The fact remains that both teams have drawn more than anyone else this term, and West Brom drew at Goodison Park earlier this campaign, but after seeing the door opened for 4th place this weekend, expect Everton to take the outright victory. The Toffee defenders have scored as many goals as the West Brom strikers have managed all year.
  • Probable lineups Everton: Howard – Coleman, Jagielka, Distin, Baines –Barry, McCarthy – Mirallas, Barkley, Pienaar – Lukaku.

Kick Off Time: 20:00 GMT - 21:00 CET
Venue: The Hawthorns - West Bromwich, England

Aston Villa vs Arsenal - Competition: England, Premier League, Round 21st
Match date: 13 January 2014

Aston Villa’s form is a little bit patchy this season. With 20 games already-played the Villans are sitting on the 11th position in the table having only six points advantage over the drop zone. Paul Lambert may complain about the scoring form of his players. In as many as 9 games the Villans failed to score, 6 of which were played at home ground. No wonder that their goal balance is not to their advantage with 19 goals earned while six more conceded. Nevertheless, their recent form is not as bad – victory over Sunderland on the road and draw with Swansea City at Villa Park. Yet, these two games were preceded with four league losses. What’s even worse for the Villans is the list of unavailable players. Five players are out while two others will be assessed in pre-match fitness tests.

Arsenal team remain the leader of the Premier League table. Out of 20 games already behind them they managed to win 14, 3 others were ended in a draw and only 3 were lost during the whole 2013/2014 campaign. The Gunners cannot afford themselves to drop points against Aston Villa since the title race is open and fierce with the top three clubs being just one or two points away from each other. As far as the injuries are concerned Arsene Wenger expects to have Olivier Giroud back from a minor injury. Similarly, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is back to full fitness after a long-term injury. Fitness tests prior to the game will show if Aaron Ramsey and Kieran Gibbs are also available. Yet, Gunners lost Theo Walcott in the FA Cup win over Tottenham.

Kick Off Time: 20:00 GMT - 9:00 pm CET
Venue: Villa Park, Birmingham (England)

Udinese vs Internazionale - Competition: Italian Coppa Italia
Match date: 9 January 2014
Venue: Stadio Friuli

Udinese 1-0: Maicosuel Reginaldo de Matos goal vs Inter Milan (32').

Inter Milan still can't get things going well in this early 2014 as after suffering a disappointing Serie A defeat over Lazio last weekend, Nerazzurri found themselves eliminated from Coppa Italia battle after being defeated by Udinese this midweek. Putting out a pretty solid squad on paper, Inter tried to take control of proceedings, but their opponent put on a solid display as they don't want to lose face in front of their home crowd.
Eventually, it was the home side that got things going as on 32 minutes a swift attacking move resulted in the opening goal, which was scored by Maicosuel. That goal didn't only last until half time break but turned out to be the math decided as no more goals were scored by either teams up till the final whistle was blown. It was definitely a disappointing result for Inter as their ambition in starting off the 2014 brightly still hasn't come off well.

PSG vs Real Madrid - Competition: Club Friendlies
Match date: 2 January 2014 Kick Off Time: 16:45 GMT
Venue: Khalifa International Stadium, Doha

That goal triggered much stronger response from PSG as they continue to push forward in search for goals, but the likes of Edinson Cavani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic seemed to forget their shooting boots on that match as they uncharacteristically missed plenty goal scoring chances. In the second period, both teams made many changes in their line up, but both kept on pushing forward, creating chances after chances. However, until the final whistle was blown none of those two teams were able to score more goals as Madrid holding their slender victory till the end.

Paris Saint Germain 0-1 Real Madrid:
Real Madrid 0-1: Jese Rodriguez goal vs Paris Saint-Germain FC (18').
