For the second season running, Bayern Munich came away from the Emirates
with a two goal advantage in the tie from the first leg.It was an
eventful game with both Mezut Ozil and David Alaba missing penalties for
each team. Wojciech Szczesny was sent off for his part in giving away
the Bayern penalty. Arsenal went to the Allianz Arena last season and
recorded a surprise 2-0 victory.
Since the first leg Bayern Munich have continued to dominate the Bundesliga with wins at Hannover (4-0) and at home to Schalke (5-0). At the weekend Bayern won 6-1 at Wolfsburg which saw them go an impressive 23 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga standings. They have won their last 13 games in all competition scoring 26 goals in their last six games in all competitions
Ribery and Shaqiri have both returned from their injuries, leaving Badstuber as the only unavailable player. Anyway, Mario Götze is carrying a knock and is a doubt for Bayern. Guardiola rested a number of first team regulars last weeekend so he will have Mandzukic, Schweinsteiger and Thiago Alcantara very fresh.
Arsenal team bounced back from their first leg disappointment by thrashing Sunderland 4-1 in their subsequent Premier League match. However they were beaten 1-0 at Stoke a week later but picked up a good 4-1 victory against Everton in the FA Cup last Saturday.
Olivier Giroud will be recalled, but the game comes too soon for Aaron Ramsey and Wojciech Szczesny is suspended. Laurent Koscielny should return after missing out at the weekend while Wilshere, Walcott, Diaby and Monreal are all out through injuries.
Arsenal have a good run of form going in Germany, having won three of their last five visits there, drawing the other two. ayern won five of their six Group D games in the first round, but the one defeat that they did suffer came at home against a Premier League side, Manchester City.
