Drogheda United FC vs Malmo FF Football Match will be played on 04.07.2013 at allaght Stadium, Dublin (Ireland) for UEFA Europa League qualification - 1st round (first leg) . Emir Alecković (Bosnia) will be the match referee.
Drogheda United FC took part in the UEFA Europa League qualification (1st round 1st leg) three time between 2006 and 2008, always made it to the second qualifying round, even gained a point at Dynamo Kiev in 2008. But this time the challenge appears much harder. Though Drogheda United FC became second in the Irish Premier League last year, they have massive problems this year, fight against relegation, are only eight of twelve after Friday's 0:3 home defeat against Shamrock Rovers. On Monday Drogheda beat Cork City in the League Cup 3:0, though several players were rested. Apart of the Italian goalkeeper Gabriel Sava all other Drogheda players are Irish.
Compared with the Irish host the Swedish club Malmo FF have far more international experience, used to play regularly in European Cup, even made it to the final of the European Champion Clubs' Cup in 1979. The last time that Malmo FF took part in the Europa League was in 2011, when they gained just a single point and became last in their group. After a third place in the Allsvenskan league last year, they are on the third position again at the moment, managed to win three games in a row before lost 1:3 at home against BK Hacken last Thursday. Coach Rikard Norling usually plays an offensive 3-4-3 system. With Jansson, Pekalski and Hamad he has three young players in his squad, who already played for the Swedish national team.
