Asteras Tripolis Stadium will be hosting on 1 August 2013, an Europa League: 3rd qualifying round match between Asteras Tripolis and SK Rapid Wien. The match referee  will be Kevin Blom (Netherlands).
For the second-time, Asteras Tripolis team has qualified for the UEFA Europa League. Its begining season ended last year in the third qualifying round against CS Maritimo. Asteras has been playing in the Super League since 2007/08, and the third rank in last season was its best in history. The team is considered very strong in home fixtures, as the 24 official home games in last season brought 18 wins, 3 draws and only 3 defeats. The summer transfer period brought many changes in the squad: 14 players have left the club, but Asteras have signed 11 new players. The most known new signing will be keeper: Dani Hernandez (Real Valladolid and current team keeper of Venezuela).
Though its best days are ended for many years-in 1995/96 it reached the Final of the Cup Winner's Cup- SK Rapid Wien will be a permanent guest in the European Cup. In the past four years, Rapid Wien team advanced three-times to the Europa League group stage, but then the European season was over after the group matches. But, this year, the qualification for the Group phase would be a great success, because the team has lost some experienced players through the transfer period and so manager, Zoran Barisic, has one of the youngest squads in the Austrian Bundesliga. Only two players have more than 30 years and are: captain Steffen Hofmann and Branko Boskovic. Michael Schimpelsberger, Dominik Wydra, Deni Alar and Dominik Starkl (all injured) will miss the matches against Asteras.
